On Wednesday 26th April Wellow and 9 other schools went to compete in the final of Rock Challenge at the Portsmouth Guildhall. They had already competed and placed 1st in their heats and were now in the southern finals. Wellow’s theme was ‘SS Mendi, the Ship History Forgot’, the children told the story, through dance and drama, of the terrible tragedy that took place 100 years ago in Southampton waters. Earlier in the day all the schools’ rehearsed in front of each other and then each school voted for their favourite performance. This very special Award for Performers’ Choice was won by Wellow; this meant a great deal to our children as it was recognition from all the other schools and children taking part in Rock Challenge! Before our performance the children were thrilled to hear that we had already won 3 special awards ‘Award for Healthy Lifestyle’, ‘Award for School Community Support’ and the ‘Award for Cultural and Educational Achievement’. Other awards we won included ‘Excellence for Drama’, ‘Excellence for Concept’, ‘Excellence for Choreography’ and ‘Excellence for Lighting’ plus many more. It was a long but superb day supported by all involved and after several hours of performances the results were in! Wellow placed 3rd overall!!! An amazing result for our school! We are immensely proud of all the children involved in this year’s Rock Challenge and would like to thank all the parents for supporting their children throughout this wonderful experience. Well done Wellow, another truly magnificent performance! Thank you to parents, staff and all volunteers involved in costumes, hair and make-up, dance etc.
